Game Designers Take Note: One in Three Parents Play

If you thought the average gamer was from the teenage set, think again. Based on a recent survey, adults make up one in every three video game players. This startling fact is not lost on game design professionals, who have begun to create games that appeal to adults and kids alike.

In what has become a high-tech bonding experience, adults are gaming with their kids. A new website, GamerDad.com, has released some startling discoveries about the gaming habits of families. Not only do adults share games with their kids, but they believe that playing video games actually brings the family closer together. Game designers have hopped onto this trend by introducing several game designs with adults in mind. This will no doubt boost the demand for games and serious game designers.

Game Designers: Adults Play, Too.


  • Fun Statistics. According to the recent trend, the average age of the adult gamer is 37, with females making up almost half of the total adult game-playing population.
  • Too Much Gaming? Game designers are well aware that the average gamer spends over 19 hours per month playing games.
  • No Government Please. Almost two in three gamers believe that it's not the role of government do protect families from violent games.

Judging by this survey and recent cultural trends, video games are here to stay. That means a bigger demand for high quality games as well as for the designers who make them. If you love gaming, you should check out the opportunities that exist for those with game design training.

  • Environment. When you become a video game designer, you will be working in hip studios bringing your fantasies into reality.
  • Outlook. As gaming continues to rise, there will be more than enough opportunities for game designers to make it big.
  • Education. You can become a game designer by completing a game design course at an area technical school.
